The pitch for GoldenRod was obvious - John Lavoie as a secret agent. When filming began in late 1995, the Synthetic American crew could not have imagined the problems that would plague this behemoth of a project.

Casting was announced around Thanksgiving - Dan Parenti as the villain, Dr. Alfredo, Noah Rubin as Ruple, and Janae Aubrecht as Countess Ivana Boink (this joke was pre-Austin Powers). Added to the mix were character actors Ian Scheller and Adam Hughes, adding a touch of danger and mystery to the mix. Shooting commenced in Dec. 1995.

Shooting went on until literally just before the premiere. Exhausted by the gruelling editing schedule, Nathan Ryan couldn't help but wonder if this would be Synthetic American's last film. GoldenRod was happily received by its audience on Feb. 7, 1998, and paved the way for the classic that would follow . . .
